Call Out from Hillingdon Hospital
Stockley Park has received the message below from our friends at Hillingdon Hospital. Please do read and if you are able to help, there is a link at the bottom…
From Luke Penwald, Hillingdon Hospitals Charity:
We have been overwhelmed by the outpouring of love and concern for the hospital from the local population and local businesses who have been turning up at our main entrance with home-cooked meals and bags of produce. This is also reflected in hospitals all over the country. While we are very moved by this expression of support, we are wanting to discourage the general public from visiting the hospital for their safety while offering them a chance to help where it really makes a difference at the same time.
Along with many NHS charities around the UK, we have launched a special staff welfare appeal to enable people to support frontline staff while not endangering themselves by visiting us.
The fund is aimed at lifting some of the financial burden off the hospital in having to meet extra and unexpected needs not previously budgeted for. So, for example, we are needing to put key workers up in hotels while they isolate from their families to stay healthy and be on duty. The problem is nearly all the hotels near the hospital have closed so we are having to accommodate staff further afield and, in many cases, arrange taxi services to get them to their wards promptly.
There are many other basic needs such as toiletries as staff are taking several showers a day and numerous other items our ITU unit has indicated they need. The fund will not be used to buy essential items such as face masks, eyewear and other protective equipment which should be on its way from the NHS central command.
Very extraordinary times indeed but I can tell you that I have never been more proud to wear my NHS lanyard and to be associated with such brilliant people doing an extraordinary job in unprecedented times.
